What it does is, it looks at past sales data and thinks about the chances to increase your important numbers at different prices. So, if it sees a quick chance to make your sales or profit better, it will change the price for you.

Holocene is built on the promise of "Do no harm." It makes very small changes to prices, either up or down, so it doesn’t hurt your sales, Impressions, CTR, or your ranking. It looks at how fast things are selling, the prices, the type of market, how many people see your items, click rates, and other things. Holocene works in two main steps:
1. Learning About Your Product:
The A.I. learns about your product and how people react to different prices. This helps Holocene understand how to set prices that make people want to buy. It’s like when Netflix asks you about your favorite movie types when you sign up. After you tell Netflix what you like, it shows you movies that fit your taste. Just like Netflix, Holocene doesn’t know at first what price will work best, so it tries to find out quickly.
2. Finding Better Prices:
After Holocene learns enough, it looks for chances to help you sell more. If people are more willing to buy because they just got paid or because it’s a certain time of the year, the A.I. picks the best price to increase sales. It checks every day, and if things change, Holocene will review and adjust the price again.
So, if prices didn’t work well at first, it’s because Holocene is still learning and adjusting to find what works best!

In simple words, it’s about how much people want to buy something when the price changes, which is called “Price Elasticity.”

• If a seller makes the price 5% higher ($100 to $105) and sells 5% less (100 to 95 items), that’s called “Unit Elasticity.”
• If a seller makes the price 10% higher ($100 to $120) and still only sells 5% less (100 to 95 items), that’s “Inelastic Demand.” If demand is inelastic, making prices higher will likely bring in more money.
• If a seller makes the price 5% higher ($100 to $105) and then sells 10% less (100 to 90 items), that’s “Elastic Demand.” If demand is elastic, making prices higher will likely bring in less money.

The tricky part is, what people want can change every day. So, there’s a new “elasticity curve” daily. Holocene looks at how this curve changes every day and then decides whether to adjust the price or not based on that!

It really depends on how much the algorithm can learn about your prices and how people respond to them. Since the algorithm doesn’t know anything in the beginning, it needs time to watch the market and learn how prices work. The more it watches and tests, the more confident it becomes that the prices are good.

Here’s a simple real-life example:
Imagine going to a cafe you know nothing about—so, no first impression. My wife and I visited a cafe in Riga called Lido on a trip. Our first visit wasn’t great—tasty food but dirty tables. We rated it 3.5 out of 5. Next time, the service was poor, and we rated it 1.5. So, our average rating was 2.5 out of 5.

Later, we had better experiences and rated it much higher, around 5.0, making our new average rating 4.30. We learned from reviews that Lido usually has quick and tasty home-cooked food, and our first impression was wrong. The more we visited, the clearer the true picture became, moving from not knowing anything to understanding the true quality through our visits.

Just like us learning about the cafe, the algorithm learns about the best prices by watching and testing them over time!
